We will be celebrating the African American Voice 19th Anniversary which coincide with Juneteenth and National Caribbean American Heritage Month. For the first time in Colorado history we are celebrating National Caribbean American Heritage Month. Why? The Triangle Slave Trade – In Africa, slaves were sold to Europeans. They were taken to the Caribbean or Brazil and sold at auctions. Slaves were traded in the Caribbean for Molasses. Molasses were made into rum in the American Colonies and traded back to Africa for more slaves. Slaves were taken from the Caribbean and Brazil and distributed throughout the New World as property. |
| Why is this important? African families were divided and many of our ancestors and family members are still in Africa, the Caribbean and Brazil today |
